I would like to share a story today:
A boy went to the Principal and said: “Madam, I won’t be coming to School anymore.”
The Principal responded, “But why?”
The boy said “Ah! I saw a teacher speaking ill of another teacher; You have a Sir who can’t read well; the staff is not good; students look down upon their fellow students, and there are so many other wrongs happening in the school.”
The Principal replied “Okay. But before you go, do me a favour: Take a glass full of water and walk three times around the school without spilling a drop on the floor. Afterwards, leave the school if you wish.”The boy thought: Now that’s too easy!
And he walked three times around as the Principal had asked. When he finished, he told the Principal he was ready.
The Principal asked, “When you were walking around the school, did you see a Teacher speaking ill about another Teacher?”
The youth replied “No.”
“Did you see any student looking at other students in wrong way ?”
“You know why?”
“You were focused on the glass, to make sure you didn’t tilt it and spill any water. It’s the same with our life. When our focus is on our priorities, we don’t have time to see the mistakes of others.”
Similarly, when we go to a loud place, say a pub, there is noise all around us. We cannot expect it to be quiet and peaceful as the nature of that place is such that it needs to be noisy to exist. It bothers us while we are focused on it, we crib about how loud and noisy it is. When we accept the very nature of it and do not try to change it, it becomes easier for us to be in that place as our attention goes away from the noise to our need/want to be there at that point in time.
The place will still be the same, but a little adjustment in our attitude would make all the difference.
Either we enter the place in an awareness that it is going to be noisy and we are ok with it or we figure out the purpose of our visit there. If we are there to accomplish a task then the environment has a little say in it.
The moment this clarity comes in, everything seems to fall into place.
Focusing on the purpose behind any work can save us from a lot of heartaches.
What would you say?
Does the environment play a role in not allowing you to work at your optimum potential?
Do you need to bring in that change of perspective in your understanding?
Write to me if you wish to get more focus and clarity in your thoughts.
My love to all of you 💕
